About the concert

An exciting opener of Noack’s 2023/2024 concert season, kicks off with the Shishkov-Hadjiev Duo - a collaboration between the highly imaginative Belarusian violinist Artiom Shiskov and the innovative Bulgarian cellist Stefan Hadjiev. The program highlights the most demanding works for cello-violin duo by Maurice Ravel, Bohuslav Martinu, and Zoltan Kodaly, promising as much an investigative exploration as an energy-charged performance. Highly acclaimed as international soloists and chamber musicians, both artists continuously probe beyond the traditional territories of the classical canon, creating unforgettable soundscapes with each performance.

About the program

Maurice Ravel - Sonata for violin and cello, M. 73

Bohuslav Martinu - Duo for violin & cello, No. 1, H. 157

Zoltan Kodaly - Duo for violin & cello, op. 7

Über die Musiker

Artiom Shishkov - violin

A laureate of 19 international competitions, including the 2012 Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, Artiom is an acclaimed soloist and a devoted chamber musician. The first violinist of the Lipkind Quartet, who challenged the traditional performance practice by alternating the two violinists’ leading parts in performance, released the album New Worlds in 2012 with the group’s founding cellist, Gavriel Lipkind. The unusual constellation of the quartet’s members from different countries resulted in rare but intense collaborations, supported by its flexible formation of sound. Always in search of a fresh and imaginative performance experience, Artiom’s mandate is to practice “on possibilities, and then I choose possibilities on stage.”

Stefan Hadjiev - cello

Stefan Hadjiev – A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, engaged in classical performances with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Staatsorchester Kassel, and Neue Philharmonie Munich, among others. He has, however, always looked beyond the mainstream and standard definitions of music-making, always aiming to remove the boundaries between musical genres. Often invited to music festivals worldwide, including the prestigious Verbier Festival, he co-founded 180° - one of the most innovative festivals for experimental music and interdisciplinary arts in his native Bulgaria. As part of the Klangbox series, he recently produced an electronic music album for the Berlin-based label Feral Note.
